What is Root Canal Treatment?
Broken and deteriorating teeth are most typically treated with a filling or another type of restoration when they are caught and dealt with as soon as possible. Even so, as the decay spreads to the core of the tooth (also known as the pulp), a root canal may be needed to return dental function and save the tooth from needing to be removed altogether. A root canal is an advanced service performed at Downtown Dental Partners – Boston, MA, to take out contaminated pulp tissue and seal off the compromised tooth to enhance oral health. Endodontist Dr. Yasmine Basseghi and our team of highly educated dentists can help you correct infected or centrally damaged teeth by performing a careful root canal treatment. When you suffer from a painful or abscessed tooth, call our office to learn more about the health benefits of gentle root canal treatment.
Root Canal Therapy Reviews
"I had a root canal and a filling in one day, and Dr. Canesi and his staff could not have been warmer, more helpful or more skilled. Truly painless dentistry with great attention to the patient and the task at hand. Highly recommended."- A.D. / Google / Sep 01, 2019
"Best practice ever. Very concerned about patients, and extremely responsive to our needs. My whole family goes here. I had an older tooth cap fall off at 11 am, and I was in the office, in the chair getting it reattached at 12:45 pm the same day. Thank you!!!"- L.W. / Google / Oct 01, 2019
"New to Boston, I started going to DCDK after the president of the company I worked at strongly recommend them to me. Figuring that the president of a global marketing agency didn’t get to where he was by making poor dental decisions, I made my first appointment. I’ve been a patient of Dr. Canesi & Dr. Kitsos for the better part of 12 years now and although I am not the president of a company yet, I do have hell of a healthy smile! And that’s no small feat! I’m writing this review from quite a bit of experience. Dr. Canesi & Dr. Kitsos have performed everything from a filling and root canal to helping to replace broken teeth after I broke my jaw. Skills and acumen aside, DCDK is a super friendly office. Every time I’ve walked in for an appointment I’ve been greeted at the front desk by first name and with a smile. All the hygienist take time to say hello and ask how you are. It’s like Cheers but you leave with a toothbrush! I truly could keep going on about how great my experience has been with Dr. Canesi & Dr. Kitsos but I think you are better off going and seeing for yourself."- M. / Google / Sep 01, 2017
Do I Need a Root Canal?
Abscessed inner pulp could be caused by extreme tooth decay, a break, or damaged tooth. To decide if a root canal or another form of therapy is appropriate for reducing tooth discomfort and improving your dental health, we will do an x-ray and conduct an oral exam.
Typical symptoms, however, that can signal you need a root canal are:
- Sharp or dull oral aches, other persistent oral pain
- Pressure from biting
- Sensitivity to warm or cold temperatures
- Puffiness around your lower face or gum tissues
- A pus-filled bump near the gum tissues
- Alteration in the color of a tooth following a trauma
The Root Canal Process
Downtown Dental Partners – Boston, MA, uses innovative techniques that are utilized to help boost your comfort during a root canal. Root canals are performed under local anesthesia and can sometimes be paired with sedation services to produce additional relaxation. When your tooth is numb, we will place a covering to block your teeth and gums. The infected region of your mouth will be reached through a small opening made in the upper part of the tooth. The pulp, which makes up the nerve tissues and blood storage inside of each tooth, will be extracted and the region will be addressed using special endodontic tools before being carefully sterilized. From there, we will protect the affected tooth using a special substance and finish it off with an anesthetic filling to begin the rehabilitation period.
Following Your Root Canal Treatment
The discomfort you were feeling before your root canal should begin to go away as soon as we finish. Over-the-counter pain medication can be used to lessen any aches or inflammation that forms following your session. We will have you come back in after a couple of weeks so we can check your progress. Teeth addressed with root canal therapy are at an increased risk of trauma and generally require the protection of a customized crown once entirely recovered, which we can design to return the function and visual appeal to the tooth.
Insurance Coverage for Root Canals
Root canal therapy is often paid for in some part by insurance providers. We will contact your provider and let you know of any anticipated personal expenses. At Downtown Dental Partners – Boston, MA, our team is pleased to offer numerous payment options and can help you find low-interest financing alternatives if needed.
